I seem to remember that 50/100 and 100/200 (uncompressed/compressed)
capacity tapes were available for LTO-1 drives.

Appears to contain a discussion along the same lines - and if you can
believe everything you read off of the internet, the HP C7970A
cartridges are 50/100GB so maybe you have some of those instead? It's
possible that the data transfer rate may be lower on the lower capacity
cartridges too.
