I got that behavior too.  It appears that at least for the windows client 
(and I presume the protocol is the same in all the others) the 2.5.x client 
will not work with a 2.4.x server.  No biggie... I'll be upgrading my sever 
soon enough anyway.  Unfortunately the day I picked to upgrade the server I 
spent entirely too long during my downtime window tinkering with this 
before I reached this conclusion.
