[Bacula-users] question about retention period
2009-01-15 11:46:18
Hi everyone,
here's what i want to achieve:
I'm, using bacula to backup a set of servers to tape. I have let's say 20
tapes. i want to make full backups every night from mon - fri.
since i want to use a different tape every day, i specified the "Maximum
Volume Jobs" on the pool.
i want to keep track what exactly is on what tape for one year, so i set
"Job Retention" and "File Retention" to 1 year.
I want to keep a tape offsite on an unregular basis (for example after an
important system change). and every tape should not be used at leat one
week after it's last backup. So i set "Volume Retention" to 1 week and
"Recycle Current Volume" to yes.
Now my question: Will bacula purge all volumes after 1 week or just the on
it is recycling? Which would mean, i could not tell which file is on what
tape without rereading it.
