I have a windows fd that keeps hanging.  It doesn't do it every day, but once it hangs it seems to need a reboot to get unwound.  Today I found it hung in the middle of a differential backup, so I killed the fd, and restarted it, and then restarted the backup.

It hung after emitting this line:

28-May 11:06 liz2-fd JobId 17505: Generate VSS snapshots. Driver="VSS WinXP", Drive(s)="C"

When I did "net stop bacula-fd" on the client, bacula-fd crashed, and windows wanted to send a report to Microsoft, which I declined to do.

I logged in on the client and it was sitting there with the cpu 100% idle.    The "status client" looked like this:

I've also pretty much ruled out any network problems:
