I like to use mysql-zrm, this will create consistent mysql backups
that are later "fetched" by BackupPC.
Depending on your application and backups needs you can even trigger
the mysql-zrm backup from backuppc.

Pedro

What would be a good approach for backing up

Want excitement?
Manually upgrade your production database.
When you want reliability, choose Perforce
Perforce version control. Predictably reliable.
