Hello,
I have a BackupPC installation (v.3.2.1) on a Debian Wheezy and I'm
trying to backup a bunch of files from Windows 2008 server.
There is a 64bit cwRsync installed on the Windows side, running as a
service.
When I start the test run of the full backup, it breaks after a while,
showing an error in the rsyncd.log as follows ("__cut__" are my
additions :| ):
2013/12/02 22:29:38 [3764] connect from SD1DEB01 (__cut__)
2013/12/02 22:29:38 [3764] rsync on . from backuppc@SD1DEB01 (__cut__)

[sender]
2013/12/02 22:30:30 [3764] rsync error: protocol incompatibility (code 2) at
rsync.c(411) [sender=3.1.0]
On the BackupPC side, one can see these lines in the XferLOG (LogLevel=4):
full backup started for directory eDrive
Connected to sd1ados01:873, remote version 31
Negotiated protocol version 28

Got file list: 278768 entries
Child PID is 5437
Xfer PIDs are now 5437
Sending csums, cnt = 278768, phase = 0
Read EOF: Connection reset by peer
Tried again: got 0 bytes
Got done from child
Got stats: 0 0 0 0 ('errorCnt' => 0,'ExistFileSize' => 0,'ExistFileCnt' =>
0,'TotalFileCnt' => 0,'ExistFileCompSize' => 0,'TotalFileSize' => 0)
Child is aborting
Got exit from child
Parent read EOF from child: fatal error!
Sending csums, cnt = 273551, phase = 1
Done: 0 files, 0 bytes
Got fatal error during xfer (Child exited prematurely)
Backup aborted (Child exited prematurely)
What is suspect here, the numbers of check sums in phase 0 diverge from
the count in phase 1. But I can't draw any conclusions from that.
Now, when I try the same command with rsync from the console, it runs
without problems.
Any help or a clue would be greatly appreciated,
Thank you,
Andrzej
