I have been running backuppc on Debian sid for over five years without a problem. I don't upgrade it daily, mainly when a high-priority/security related fix is released or when backuppc is upgraded.

IMHO, unstable tends to be more stable than testing. It also tends to be a rolling release, which is one reason I run sid in the first place.
