I eventually realised that there was an error in my setup.
My BackupPC database is on /media/backuppc (on an external hard drive),
and there is a symbolic link from /var/lib/backuppc to /media/backuppc.
Or rather there should be -- probably on a recent update, the link at
/var/lib/backuppc got replaced by an empty directory.
Having corrected that, the "New Files" listings have all magically
reappeared.
Which is fair enough, but it's weird that nearly all of BackupPC knew
where my database was while a few bits, such as the New Items
statistics, were looking at an empty folder.
Hopefully this being in the archive will help someone else in the future.
cheers
Chris
