This line gives the bytes Amanda wrote ^^^^^^^^
The value is somewhat low. I would guess a 40GB tape is being written
with software _and_ hardware compression. This lowers capacity - see FAQ

If it was a 35GB tape you might have a serious hardware problem
(loosing a few percent capacity to retries would make me nervous) and
should at least try a few new tapes.
