to follow up on this myself if i try and use chg-zd-mtx manually it seems to
fail

$ ../../libexec/chg-zd-mtx -info
6 6 1

so then goto the first slot

$ ../../libexec/chg-zd-mtx -reset
1 /dev/nst0

which is right, so goto the next slot

$ ../../libexec/chg-zd-mtx -slot next
1 /dev/nst0

hmmmm it stays where it is and the debug shows
