First is the version.  2.4.1 is a quite old version.

Of about 70 sites responding to my recent survey, 2.4.1 was
in use at only 2 of those sites.

If for some reason you must use 2.4.1, ok, but ...


As for lex, you probably do not have /usr/ccs/bin as a component
of your PATH variable.  That is where lex is located.
