Hi,
An alternative is to use the chg-cdrw tape changer.
The latest version is obtainable from 
http://www.ictp.trieste.it/~onime/chg-cdrw-0.86.tar.gz

The script tries to emulate a tape slot changer device using a CD-RW or 
CD-R.
It does not require patching amanda source code but needs at least version 
2.4.3 of amanda (taper has the file: support). I've only tested it on 
Linux. 
Detailed documentation (including tapetype definitions) is included in the 
tar file, but feel free to  contact me directly if you need more help or 
assistance or clearifications.
