I don't have access to the client machine related to the problem above
anymore. Or rather, I have access, but the OS was upgraded, so I can't
confirm what version of tar was running before. However, the "dump"
method is being used to create archive, so maybe "tar" isn't a factor.

I do know that some other machines in our backup system are using an
older GNU tar version 1.11.2, but again, they are using "dump" so this
might not be a factor.

Yes, all the files are present.

Also, if it makes a difference, "amrecover" is being run from the host
machine.
