The TSM Scheduler service is running under an account that has permission to
the share as well as the files in the share. If I specify the share name,
all I get are security access errors on every file. Using the same userid I
can to a run-as on Notepad and access the files on the share for reading.
But when the backup runs as the same user every file gives an access denied
error.

You may have already looked at this, but it may be a Windows permission
problem.
If the System account is running the client, it can only backup local
drives.
You need an account that has authority to backup non-local drives/shares.

Windows 2012R2 server

TSM 7.1.2.0 client

The customer has a drive with a symbolic link off to a UNC share path.
When the backup runs it backs up the drive, but does not follow the symbolic
link and backup the UNC share. Which is what we really want to accomplish.
The FOLLOWSYMBOLIC=YES is ignored in the DSM.OPT file. I know it says *NIX
only, but I was hoping.

Anybody know of a way to get TSM to follow that symbolic link on the drive?

I think a statement like

domain ALL-LOCAL \\server1\share1

will get the share backed up, if the account used to run backups has the
necessary permissions. The client scheduler service is typically run under
the system account, which typically does not have access to resources owned
by other systems.
