Actually we added the NIC because normally we don't cross firewalls when
backuping (the firewall people don't like it). And the test were done on the
same TSM server, so no actual network activity.

We had a similar situation trying to back up servers in our DMZs. The firewall
would drop the connection after a while and communications would be lost
between the TSM Server and the client in the DMZ.
To get around this, we had to set the TSM client "SCHEDMODE" directive to
"POLLING" rather than "PROMPTED". Thus the TSM client would "wake up" the
firewall port every time it would poll the TSM server for a schedule and when
the backup started.

I have a weird TSM server problem.
We have 2 TSM servers ver 5.5.2.0 on AIX (one server is 5300-12-01-1016, the
other is 5300-06-01-0000). We have a Gigabit network connection to every
firewall zone (and 10 Gbit to the servers zone), so the backups don't go
through the firewalls. We have been requested to backup a server and find out
that the server is on a new firewall zone.
So we did request an IP and ethernet connection for both of our main TSM
servers. When the ethernet was set up, after some time (it differs, from 5 to
30 minutes) we cannot longer connect to the TCP port 1500 (backup port). We are
testing from the server with "telnet localhost 1500", we also tested with IPs.
The ssh, ftp, telnet programs are working fine and the "netstat -an" show the
port as LISTEN. As soon as we DOWN or DETACH the ethernet, the port begins to
work.
We have this problem on 2 TSM server. In one of these servers the new ethernet
is the 10th, and on the is 11th (I don't know if it matters).
Do you have encountered something like that ?
