The journal *entries* are purged after a successful journal-based backup
(so that space can be reused), but the journal database file size itself
is not reduced.
If the journal is reset, such as if you stop the journal service (and
PreserveDbOnExit is not set to 1) or if there is a jouranl notification
buffer overflow, then the journal database will be zeroed out.
For what it's worth, the journal databases are not really analogous to the
dsmerror.log and dsmerror.log files.
