Thanks for all the responses.

Yeah this is exactly what I was thinking about doing.  There is
something that I'm not clear on though.  I can set up a separate storage
pool and management class that would retain the monthly backup's of
exchange for X number of years.  I have to send these tapes offsite and
do not want to keep a copy onsite unless there is a way to expire the
onsite copy after 30 days.  Is this at all possible?

I suppose I could just send all the tapes used in the month end storage
pool offsite along with the DRMEDIA.  I'm not sure what it will be like
tracking the tapes though.  Is this a viable solution or am I missing
something?

I have been thinking over this option for someone else.

One option is to set up a separate tape pool (with copy pool if you want
two
copies), and set up a management class for it that expires data after x
years.  Only do a monthly backup of Exchange to this pool.  And make the
copypool version if that is in our requiremets.

Just a thought. ... Let us know what you figure out!
