Re: Very long backup/So many files

Is this on gigabit or 100 Base T? If it is gigabit, something is really
slow. If it is 100 Base T, something is probably wrong with the
calculation. You are getting 16MB/sec.
You may consider using virtual mount points if this is a Unix host. If it
is a windows host, think about creating a number of share points with drive
letters and back up those concurrently. If you already have a lot of mount
points, think about increasing the resource utilization on the client.
I have a SGI UNIX client that has about 7M files in one of its file systems.
It is connected gigabit and runs a backup in about 5 hours. Usually, it
only backs up about 15 GB per night in that file system.
Hope this helps.

Subject: Very long backup/So many files
Does anyone think a computer that has this many files on it, that only
backed up 12,222 files, should take over 10 hours to complete? I'm having a
problem with this node dropping out a couple of times a night for being idle
for more than 60 minutes too.
We've double checked the NIC and switch port for the proper settings. When I
looked at it last night the CPU wasn't doing anything.
