We just went from TSM Server 4.1.3 to 5.1.1.6
You do not need to stop at 4.2 along the way.

Here's the conceptual overview of what we did -- obviously, tailor it
for your environment:

1) stop TSM from doing anything (disable sessions, nomigrrecl, disablesched)
2) delete SYSTEM OBJECT (helps speed up cleanup backupgroups later on)
3) full db backup
4) stop TSM Server
5) copy dsmserv.opt, dsmserv.dsk, volhist, devconfig to a safe place
6) install new version from CD
7) patch to 5.1.1.6 (Tivoli website)
8) reboot
9) start TSM (again w/ disable sessions, nomigrrecl, disablesched)
10) cleanup backupgroups
13) restart TSM (sessions enabled, uncomment nomigrrecl/disablesched)

* "nomigrrecl" & "disablesched yes" should be put in the dsmserv.opt

p.s. We actually did one further step and deleted library and drive
devices in both TSM as well as on AIX level. When redefining on TSM
level, there is a new "define path" command that has to be done after
each "define library" and "define drive" (which both change slightly
in syntax too).

Hi
I have TSM 4.1.4 running on AIX 4.3.3. I like to
upgrade TSM from my current level to 5.x. Do I need
to upgrade it to 4.2 before I can go to 5.x?
Can anyone who has done the upgrade give me some
advices please?

Thank you in advance.
