If you plan to run on SQL Server 6.5 you do not have a choice.
You must use TDP for SQL version 1.1.  There are certain
SQL Server data access routines that TDP for SQL uses
that are not available on SQL Server 6.5.

If you want to use the new features of TDP for SQL 2.2,
you will have to migrate to a supported platform,
and that is SQL 7 or SQL 2000.
