Backint/TDP for R/3 is an archive process, not a backup process.

Best bet is to configure a management class/copy group and set retver for
the number of days you want to keep things. While you're at it, you'll also
want two management classes and proper copy groups and storage pools for the
off-line redo logs (handled through brarchive). You'll want to keep the redo
logs as long as you keep the backups. Those of us who are truly paranoid (or
have paranoid DBAs) appreciate the ability to keep the database and the redo
logs on three seperate sets of tapes. (I cheat just a bit - my second redo
log set uses the same storage pool as my normal archive processes).

We run a script through cron to do the brarchive about every half hour and
the brbackup once daily (online backups Sunday PM through Friday PM,
off-line at midnight Saturday). I'm keeping everything for 21 days.
