Hi Andre,

This sounds like APAR IC24494. Most likely it is
due to a directory that exceeds the Windows
MAX_PATH limit of 260 characters. Instead of
skipping the offending directory, the backup
client simply stops, and issues an incorrect
message.

Since TSM processes files and directories in
ascending ASCII sequence, you should be able to
find the problem directory by looking at files
and directory names whose names are "near" the
last file that was backed up successfully.

At this time, TSM can not support file or
directory names that exceed MAX_PATH. So the
choices are to either rename the directory to
a shorter name, or else install the 3.7.1.0
client, which skips the offending directory.
Note that in skipping the directory, all files
and subdirectories of that directory are also
skipped.

Andy

"The only dumb question is the one that goes unasked."

I get Error code ANS4028E during inc backup of 3.1.0.6
NT client backing up to 3.1.2.40 AIX Server running
oslevel 4.3.2.0.

Strange thing is, according to V3R1 Messages docu, that
this error should occur during restore/retrieve, if you
don't have permission to create the directory for the
file being restored or retrieved, NOT DURING INC BACKUP!
To have a clean table we renamed the client filespaces
on the server and ran the backup again with
USEUNICODEFILENAMES NO, as recommended. Yet we still get
the same error code...

Anybody else got that error? Any ideas to solve the problem?

Regards, Andre
