Your suspicions are correct (or at least they are the same as the advice
that I have received from IBM). According to the IBM advice I have been
given, sharing a 3590 between multiple applications on one server (including
multiple instances of ADSM) is OK. However, dynamic sharing of the device
between multiple machines is not OK. As you suggest, moving a device from on
machine to another manually is OK. We do this with one of our 3494s with 10
3590s attached.
