I think I have the old "NT authentication" problem, but it is slightly
different from what I remember seeing posted here before. Additionally, my
NT expertise is not what I would like it to be...... but that's another
story.

I was asked to help install the ADSM client on an existing NT server that
already had ARC Serve on it. I went over to their office, and this is what
happened.....

1. Installed ADSM client (under the Admin id) went ok - no problems. We also
did a quick backup to insure connectivity.

2. Installed the REGBACK command, and placed it in the startup folder.
Again no problems.

3. Attempted to install the service using DSMCSVCI (this was a V2 client).
It failed with a return code of 5. After a minute, the administrator
decided that the admin id didn't have the correct authority to install a
service (?), and assigned it to an ARC Serve group that did have this
authority. We were then able to install the service. We started the
scheduler service, and left it for the night.

4. The next morning we found that all of the backups had failed with
authorization failures.

5. I went back and we looked at the authorization for the admin id. We
added the "backup" and "restore" rights to the admin id - then started a
backup of the C and D drives. They both appeared to be ok - on the C drive
we backed up the registry keys, and then began backing up the files. All
looked well.

6. We left it for the overnight run, but it failed again.

It appears that the NT "service" process does not have the authority to do
backups. What are we missing - I have not seen this on any other NT machine
I have been involved with.

Thanks in advance...
