     OK, remember that :

query volume (queries one or more STORAGE POOL volumes)
(db backups are not assigned/don't reside in a stg pool)
SCRATCH status tapes only show up in a "query libvol" and where
the library might be assigned to a single storage pool it is not
restricted/limited to a single storage pool.

SO if a library can contain multiple storage pools how would you keep
a single storage pool from grabbing ALL the scratch tapes within a
     single library? ? ?

     update stg somelibrtapepool MAXSCRATCH=###

Plus if the storage pool has ### private volumes that came from
scratch THOSE COUNT... so activity towards a tape pool could fail with
no scratch volumes available IF there are already ### volumes used
(now listed as private) within that stgpool ('cause they came from
scratch) EVEN IF YOUR "q libvol" shows tons of scratch tapes...

Now, if you show scratch tapes with a "q libvol" and you are directing
your backup to a device class that is listed as being associated with
a library AND it is telling you that no scratches are available then
     something is wrong...

BUT! if you just have drives (ie NOT in an ATL) you can't query libvol
and you can't see scratch tapes listed... that's kind'a a manual
     process then....

Now also DB backup tapes with INCREMENTALS still just show dbbackup in
a q libvol. To see anything more use the "query volhist t=dbb"
command... then to clear/return to scratch these db backup volumes
     use:
del volhist t=dbb tod=today-7 (or some number of days back)
this will toss these entries and return the tapes to scratch status,
that is if that is where they came from to start!

I think this will get you where you need to be but your message was a
little gray... and with no 'adsm produced' error message examples
listed I might have taken off on a wild tangent, but I've been known
to do that even if I do have all the facts ;-)

     later
          Dwight

I want to thank everyone for the great answers to my DR and copy pool questions.
..

But now has I am moving on another problem ventured up as I am doing DB incremen
tal backups.

I performed my DB backup (type=full) and everything worked fine but now I am per
forming the DB
backup (type=incremental) and is asking for scratch tapes that I have no listing
 for in any
Tape pools.

When I perform a "q vol" these tapes do not appear anywhere.

Is there a way to find or even delete these tapes from the scratch status/pool ?

Thanks..
