Version 1 - how long?
1997-04-04 11:35:09
I've deferred implementing V2 for some time now, mostly due to other
pressing matters. But, I also can't find a big justification to spend
time on it right now since it works just fine. As for DRM, the cost
is a major deterrence and I'm still not sure how useful it would be
since we backup directly to tape. If the tapes are lost, restoring
the server won't do me much good. Unless all backup tapes and the data
base get copied at the same time, I don't see how (albeit in the worse
case) we could recover if the data center burned down. Considering
that we have 800+ tapes in our robot just for ADSM, copying them would
not be practical. I'm sure some of you would disagree and I welcome
any comments. But, if IBM drops support of V1, then I would probably
implement V2 for support reasons alone. Any rumors to V1's death?
