Well, my environment is different but you can probably adapt things to
your environment... Every morning after the wave of nightly backups
finishes (all should be done by 6:00, no later than 7:00 AM. then at
07:00 I have an administrative command event that does a:
      delete volhist t=dbb tod=today-7
this tosses to the wind all info on dbbackup volumes older than 7 days
making them available as scratch volumes... then at 08:00 another
admin cmd scheduled event does a:
       backup db type=full scratch=yes dev=3590DEVC
and this does a full backup to a scratch tape...

I just like having the full backups daily, and they don't really run
that long... I do have one that runs about an hour but it is a hugh
db, about 16GB at 90% full... soooooo....

     HOPE THIS HELPS...
     later
          Dwight

Dear ADSM Administrators,

I have a serious problem with the ADSM DB Backup.

Some days ago I made my first DB Backup with

backup db

defining a tape volume on my EXAbyte T440 Library as destination.

In addition I set logmode to rollforward
and defined the DBBackuptrigger (both full and incr DEVCLASS = EXABYTE 440).

I monitored, that the db backup was correctly done, but I did not recognize on
which volumes. After about ten backups, the log file ran full and I found the
following messages in the actlog:

12/09/96 09:16:11 ANR4553I Incremental database backup triggered; started as
                      process 4.
12/09/96 09:16:11 ANR1405W Scratch volume mount request denied - no scratch
                      volume available.
12/09/96 09:16:12 ANR4578E Database backup/restore terminated - required
                      volume was not mounted.

When checking the volumes on the Library with

dsmserv display dbbackupvolume

I found, that all available volumes of the library have been used up for db
backups.

Now my queestions:

1.: What did I wrong in setting up the DB backup? How can I manage that only
one or max. two volumes are used for full and incr. DB Backups?

2.: How can I make the volumes now used by the DB backup available again for
data backups?

best regards,

Karl Molter
