Here is your opportunity to work with an international team and become
an author!  We are running two exciting projects and would like to have
customers on the team:

1) Using ADSM to Back Up Databases (update)
2) Catch the NT Connection: ADSM for Windows NT

Attached are the details such as project description, start/end dates,
number of weeks, but this is all negotiable if you have the skills we
are looking for!  Even a mini-residency of two weeks might be possible.

This residency will update the existing redbook, Using ADSM to Back
This residency will update the existing redbook, Using ADSM to Back
Up Databases (SG24-4335), with new Oracle, Informix, SQL-BackTrack,
SAP R/3 BACKINT, and Microsoft SQL Server support.  Residents will
become highly skilled in using ADSM to back up databases (IBM and
non-IBM) so that you can teach or deliver service implementations.

Objectives:

Updates to the existing redbook might include:

o  Oracle Backup Agent for AIX support for Oracle7 and Oracle Parallel
   Server
o  Informix onbar support using the X/OPEN API on Solaris and AIX
   on Informix Online Database Server (ODS) and Extended Parallel
   Server (XPS)
o  SQLBackTrack support for incremental Oracle backup
o  New SAP R/3 BACKINT release
o  Backup techniques for Microsoft SQL Server
   -- May include writing a program to take the output from the
      SQL Server backup command from a named pipe interface and
      translate it to the appropriate ADSM API calls to send it
      directly to the ADSM server

Benefit to residents:

Residents will learn the latest techniques for supporting database
Residents will learn the latest techniques for supporting database
backup and recovery with ADSM.  They will be able to implement these
techniques as well as teach others about this critical area of ADSM support.

Resident prerequisites:

ADSM and one or more of the database products for which we will include

Language skills: Fluency in writing and speaking English is required.

The June announcement of an ADSM Version 2 server for Windows NT has
met with tremendous interest in the industry. The Windows NT marketplace
is growing fast, and the storage management opportunity for ADSM is
enormous. This residency will investigate and document implementation
scenarios for ADSM in the Windows NT environment. The key focus areas
for the residency are:

 * ADSM server for NT: installation, setup, connectivity, tape
   configuration, and administration

 * ADSM server for NT: recovery and disaster recovery planning

 * ADSM client for NT: backup and recovery of the Windows NT registry,
   filesystems, and applications (SQL Server and Exchange)

Residents will gain early hands-on experience of the ADSM Version 2

will also get the opportunity to develop practical Windows NT skills.
This will be of immediate value in supporting a potentially large, and
new set of ADSM customers. It will also enable the residents to deliver
high quality services in the ADSM for Windows NT environment.

Resident prerequisites:

Good ADSM experience with knowledge of the Version 2 server functions.
Good ADSM experience with knowledge of the Version 2 server functions.
Good LAN connectivity skills and knowledge of ADSM client platforms. At
least one resident should have good Windows NT experience, with the
other residents willing to learn this important new environment.
