Something simple is getting in your way. There should not be any duplicate labels in one mib. Support is very good at cleaning up mib files, You should call Support and open a PMR.

RE: [NV-L] SNMP MIB Labels creating issues!

I am trying to bring the Emerson UPS under monitoring for its load. The enterprise ID is 1.3.6.1.4.1.13400. The MIB I loaded is ITRUST_UPS_UL33.MIB.

I have two problems

1.     Inside the MIB, there are three labels, upsSmartOutput, upsOutputFrequency and upsAdvOutput all three labels are having same OID .1.3.6.1.4.1.13400.2.1.3.3.4.2. I don’t know how. But because of this clash, I am not able to bring Emerson UPS under load monitoring. Whilst Checking nvcollectord.log I see the below

Date:          2009.03.12  18:06:39.851+05:30
Class:         com.tivoli.netview.nvcollector.DataSelection$ResolveMsgDialog
Method:        createCustomArea
Organization:  Tivoli
Product:       "Distributed NetView"
Component:     SNMPCollect
ANM00041E Requested element UPS Monitoring for UST.TVMEMRDTC01.Load Monitoring for Emeson UPS not found in database.

2.     Moreover, under path .iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises.emersonNetworkPower.products, I see lot of stray labels like hareware, switch, software etc those are not part of ITRUST MIB. Also after deep dive checking I found these labels are infact, somehow, migrated from 3Com MIBS.

Hope I conveyed my issue clear here?

Thanks
Senny

Ha Ha. Got it. So which kind of UPS devices are they? APC? Liebert?

The sharing of a particular mib label is not usually a problem in Netview. The whole oid is usually involved, so it is fully qualified.
iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises.<vendor>.  and then vendors are on their own. Where are you running into this duplication?

Sorry if I confused you!

Yes, in fact I am trying to bring the UPS Device under Netview monitoring purview for its load and I come across with the peculiar issue as stated below.

Revert me if you need any further clarity.

Thanks

Senny

Are you on the right forum, Senny? I thought UPS had migrated to ITNM.

[NV-L] SNMP MIB Labels creating issues!

Hi Team,

I observed a peculiar problem in SNMP tree. I just wanted to clarify the same with you experts.

In SNMP, if I have one object label named say “XYZ” in a MIB and the same label is found in some other MIBs, then latest loaded MIBs take the precedence. Meaning, same label is not allowing in SNMP MIB, in other words, it is allowing but overwriting the old one. Hope I am correct.

If that is the case, I have major problem with the label called “products”, because almost all MIBs has got this name in common.

Currently I am in the exercise of bringing UPS under monitoring, and the problem is there are lot of UPS MIB labels found to be common and making my job more and more tough. I know this is the problem with different vendors who develops this MIB but any other way out to mitigate this issue?

Your help much appreciated!

Thanks

Senny
