You are correct, it is from the demand polling. We had two nodes at a
remote site report down since 8:30am when a demand poll was conducted at
4:00pm. The interesting part to this is that the nodes stayed green and
did not turn red all day until after I stopped and restarted netmon ion
the afternoon. The only reason I stopped and restarted netmon was to
run ovtopofix -A before I run the hotbackup.

Trapd.log indicates that the two nodes went down at 8:30am. One of the
devices is part of a smartset and has its polling set to icmp every 5m

Any ideas why the nodes stayed green?

Thanks,

Most likely, it is a Demand Poll or similar netmon action initiated by a
user from the GUI. This message is part of a trio.

Selecting a netmon action like Demand Poll from the GUI causes an event
to be sent telling netmon what you want him to do. Opening the event
connection to trapd results in this first message:

n netmon-related Application connected to trapd.

Then you should see the actual event that was sent, say
Demand polling on <node>

and then you will see the final message when the event interface is
closed
n netmon-related Application disconnecting from trapd.

[NV-L] NetView trapd.log messages

Hello,

We are running NetView 7.15 FP1 on AIX 5.3 and noticed in trapd.log that
we are seeing the following message throughout the day.

Tue Mar 03 14:42:51 2009 <none> n netmon-related Application
disconnecting from trapd.

Any idea what is causing this message?

Thank you,
