Hi Tomas,
I think you have 2 things here - the polling method (ping or SNMP) and
the polling interval. The option that you have found already controls
the polling interval - regardless of whether this status poll uses ping
or SNMP. You can change the polling interval for networks using IP
address wildcards (as you have found), for specific systems (by
specifying IP address or name), or by using SmartSets (in which case you
can be quite creative about the selection). If you have several entries
in this configuration panel then "the most specific" will apply -
specific host - network - SmartSet.

Completely separately from the status polling interval, is the status
polling method - ping or SNMP. The default is usually ping although if
a router supports SNMP and has unnumbered addressing interfaces, status
polling will automatically change to SNMP. For specific devices or for
address ranges or device types, you can control the polling method using
your netmon seedfile - /usr/OV/conf/netmon.seed by default. To use SNMP
for polling, put an entry in the seedfile prefaced with dollar ($). If
you have a range with a $, you can specify exceptions to that range
using caret (^). So, for example, lets say you use network 10 and all
your routers have IP addresses with the last octet in the range 250 -
254, you want to poll them all using SNMP, except 10.1.1.254, you would
put in your seedfile:
$10.*.*.250-254
^10.1.1.254

Do understand that these entries do nothing towards discovering these
devices - they simply control how they are status polled. The polling
interval is still the same one specified as discussed earlier -
regardless of ping or SNMP.

If you want to see what devices are SNMP status polled, you can use
netmonaction 8 which should write to the end of
/usr/OV/log/netmon.trace, a list of all devices being status-polled
using SNMP.

Cheers,
Jane
