Perhaps I can explain it. Often times when people test, they do so in an artificial environment, and then things don't always work as expected.
Is it possible that you changed your event configuration and the severity for this trap after nvserverd was already running the first time? Or that you did it by edit and not by the GUI? Both nvserverd and trapd will reload the trapd.conf file upon receipt of the FMTCHG trap, but that depends on when, or if, they get it. trapd will always get it, but nvserverd will not unless it is running forwardall.rs (e.g. in an event window). So with no event window running or a change occurring outside the GUI so that no event is issued, nvserverd will not know to reload the file and pick up the changes. And even when he does, there has to be an intervening event for the reload to occur. On receipt of the FMTCHG trap both daemons set a "must reload before the next event is processed" flag. If you are sending your test events back-to-back, it may take two of them before the change is noticed. But if you restart the daemons after your changes, all should be well following that. So perhaps a set of these circumstances can explain what you saw.
HTH.
Glad you have it working.

Never mind on this one. I can't explain why it's now working, but it is.

Subject: [NV-L] $NVSEV variable always set to 1
Hi all,
NV 7.1.5 UNIX
I've created an action node in a ruleset that is passing NV variables to postemsg. One of the ones I want to use is $NVSEV. I thought this would correlate to the severity settings in trapd.conf. However, I have changed it from Indeterminate to Major, and $NVSEV is still showing up as 1. Daemons have been cycled. Will this work, or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks--Drew
