TI-6A12-R01 NetView to Netcool/Precision for IP: Migration Best
Practices
To all,
The following
announcement is for a Redbook project that will be starting up in October on the
23rd. There are links in the note to the website with even more information.
Everyone is welcome to fill out a nomination form for the residency. This is an
excellent opportunity to get your hands on the Netcool/Precision for IP
environment while building a migration Redbook. This should be helpful to all of
the NetView experts on this list. I need several good people to nominate
themselves as residents. Anyone with questions can email me directly at
shochste AT us.ibm DOT com.
While looking at the
residency web page you will find the link to the nomination page in the upper
right hand corner.
thanks,
steve
Residency Announcement:
TI-6A12-R01 NetView to Netcool/Precision for IP: Migration Best
Practices
Benefits to Resident: You will be working
closely with development, services, and support people to verify and document
migration best practices. You will be both expected to contribute your own best
practices as well as learn new ones from your peers in the team.
If you
already know the NetView and Switch Analyzer applications, you will learn how to
set up and migrate configurations and data while using the Precision IP
application set. You will be enabled to help customers perform this
migration.
If you already know Precision IP, you will be learning how to
help customers migrate from existing NetView systems and deepen your Precision
IP knowledge.
This residency begins 23 Oct 2006, ends 17 Nov 2007 (5
weeks), and requires 5 residents. The residency is running in Austin
TX.
Nominations should be submitted online on the Web by 11 Oct
2006.
The residency leader is Stephen Hochstetler whose email address is
shochste AT us.ibm DOT com.
Note: ITSO pays authorized travel and living
expenses for all residents, but does not compensate for the time or services of
its residents. For IBMers, ITSO residency travel is pre-approved.
Residency
Description Description: This IBM Redbook will address
the best practices when migrating your IBM NetView and IBM Switch Analyzer
network mangagement environments to Precision IP.
Part 1 - Planning the
Migration Focuses on what to do before you commence the migration, and how to
set the scope within the migration constraints and come up with your migration
strategy. Understanding the benefits of the Precision IP archictecture will help
the administrator develop and communicate the strategy.
Part 2 -
Migration Best Practices In Part 2, we look at migration tools and processes
to configure Precision IP with information available in the NetView server. This
will also include how to migrate specific customizations from the NetView
application to Precision IP. Processes familiar to NetView operators will be
documented using the Precision IP toolset, including recommendations for which
features of Precision IP to explore first.
Objectives: The
objective of this residency is to produce a migration Redbook useful to both
customers and field personnel.
