I think we will just convert it in TEC since we are having to massage the
alert within perl there anyway. Thanks

you could write a perl action script that converts the hex to numeric and
send the message from netview to tec using postemsg .

Better off? That depends on your coding skills and where you feel most
comfortable employing them.

So if I am going to have to massage the incoming trap in TEC anyway I
would be better off doing the transformation in TEC?

The short answer is "no". No automatic conversion is provided.

You can get there but it would involve going the long way around the barn.
You'd intercept this trap using a ruleset or right out of trapd.conf,
passing it to a script you write yourself which would massage that hex
into
a dotted decimal IP address, and then issue a new trap of your own
devising
which contained that address. The new trap is what you'd send to TEC.

Sorry, but that's the only option I can think of.

I am implementing a trap called rttMonTimeoutNotification. The trap is
sending an address variable in hex format. I would like to translate this
address to a decimal IP before forwarding to TEC. Is there a way to do
this in Netview?
