Stick with ext3 unless you are an expert.
(ext2 fast, ext3 rapid recovery after
crash, reiserfs specialised).
There was a case for /boot being ext2
on older versions of linux,
so stick with the default setting for
/boot for your flavour of linux.
/boot should be primary, the rest don't
matter.
Suggest root and swap as primary.
