The Java Console used by our operations desk is installed on a Windows workstation remote from the Linux box using nvwcinstall.exe. What environment would I source at the Windows box? (That's a rhetorical question since there is none there to source.)
Just to keep things on the up and up, I opened an X-windows session to the NetView server and invoked NVenvironment and nvwc.sh on the Linux RedHat 3 server box to display on the workstation. I got the same message when using Quicktest. The read-write map is owned by netviewd.
If you want to take this offline and have me send screen shots and such we can do that.

Do you use the web browser based console or the native java console?
Try running nvwc.sh from the command line, after sourcing the env and
see if you still get the same error.
