RE: [nv-l] Object Status Stays Marginal After Acknowledging

You should NOT have to modify the status
source of the objects in the map. Each node is represented in several submaps
- at the IP Internet level if it is a router, and in the submap for each
network that it is on, and in the segment submap in those networks submaps.
The status color in each submap represents it status from the point of
view of that submap. Therefore, at the IP Internet level, the status source
is Compound Propogate. In the network and segment submaps, the symbol status
source is Symbol or Object, I forget which, because it is maintained by
the ipmap application. When you acknowledge, you are supposed to do it
at the lowest level - the interface card. If you do that, then the acknowledgement
will propogate all the way up. If you do the ack at other levels, say,
by acking the symbol for a router in a segment or network view, then you
will not get the results you desire.
Messing with the status source for symbols
you did not create yourself will result in interfering with the ipmap application's
management of those symbols, so I don't do it.

Its been a while since I looked into all of the options
for Object and
Symbol propigation. The only recommendation I can make is to delete
the
objects/symbols you currently have and use the defaults during creation
of new ones as that is what has worked for me in the past. I appologize
for not being more help.

It is my understanding that when you ack a child node, the parent should
change to green. I don't understand why it wouldn't be working for
you,
it has worked for me in the past. Also, we did not have to change
any
propigation status, we "propigate most critical"

Subject: [nv-l] Object Status Stays Marginal After Acknowledging
HI,
We are using NetView 7.1.4 FP3 on Windows. I am facing a problem when a
child node goes down for some reason the status of Parent changes to
yellow which is Normal. But when i acknowledge the "DOWN" child-node
the
parent still stays Yellow, isn't the status of parent dependent on
child? I have to manually change that object properties to "Propagate
status from Child". In case of a router this gets more difficult because
all the networks connected to it turns out to Yellow (Marginal).
