Catalina,
If the /usr/OV/bin/snmpwalk is timing
out, more than likely agent is not recognizing the community script being
send by command.
Below are two sample snmpd.conf files
I have used with Red Hat 3.0.
SAMPLE 1 , I found to work with Red
Hat 3.0 Update 4 applied
SAMPLE 2 , Works with Red Hat 3.0 Update
3.
Also there is a note in FIX PACK 2
Readme under "Software required for the new full image Linix CD",
in regards to the version of net-snmp found to work with NetView net-snmp
5.0.9-2.30 It was found that earlier version had a indexing problem
between the ip and interface mib tables.

Subject
| [nv-l] RedHat Snmpd ? |
|
Hello List,
I am running Netview 7.1.4 FP2 on AIX 5.2
ML04.
I have several linux servers and they are
all show up as non-snmp. I have call opened with Red Hat. These
servers are running RedHat ES3. I've checked the snmpd.conf file on linux
servers (and made a few changes per RH tech). I do an snmpwalk from the
Netview and it just times out. I check the /var/log/messages on linux and
it shows the requests coming in from Netview but nothing is returned/replied.
Another strange thing is the messages are
only logged when I restart snmpd (and then I do an smpwalk from Netview).
So If I restart snmpd (linux server), then I do an snmpwalk from Netview,
the message file shows "Received SNMP packet..", then it times
out. I do another snmpwalk (also times out) and I do not get another "received
snmp" in the /log/message file.
Any suggestions?
