do you have the mgragentd entries in /etc/snmpd.conf and /etc/snmpd.peers and do the have the same password?
On my box the lines are:
snmpd.conf:
smux      1.3.6.1.4.1.2.6.4.6           nv6000  # IBM Tivoli NetView: mgragentd
snmpd.peers:
mgragentd 1.3.6.1.4.1.2.6.4.6           nv6000  # IBM Tivoli NetView: mgragentd

Do you have a global (readonly) community or do you use different communitys for different views?

Is NetView configured to use the right community?
Try "snmpget -c <YourCommunity> localhost .1.3.6.1.4.1.2.6.4.6.1.0"

[nv-l] Netview Server Discovery

Hi All,
I have a developement server that I can not get it to discover
itself correctly. The server  appears on the IP Internet Map but not in the
ManagerSubmap. The description shows 'isManager=FALSE'. I have verified
that the mgragentd deamon is running and in-fact have stopped and started
the deamon and then demandpolled the netview server.   I performed
'snmpwalk  hostname'    and it walks until it gets to:
snmp.snmpOutTraps.0 : Counter: 43
snmp.snmpEnableAuthenTraps.0 : INTEGER: enabled
ifExtensions.ifExtnsTable.ifExtnsEntry.ifExtnsIfIndex.1 : INTEGER: 1
ifExtensions.ifExtnsTable.ifExtnsEntry.ifExtnsIfIndex.2 : INTEGER: 2

and then it times out.

I attempted 'snmpwalk hostname ..1.3.6.1.4.1.2.6.4.6   and receive
no MIB objects contained under subtree.

AIX 5.2.0.2
