Hi,

Have a look at your values for the variables RES_RETRY and RES_TIMEOUT
on the AIX box. We were having similar issues here with the client DNS
resolver taking 90 seconds to time out in the event of a failed ping,
thus delaying the next ping etc etc. We reset these two variables to 1
and things improved dramatically. (Thanks due to Jane Curry :-))

(They should be defined in /etc/environment)

Hello,

netview 7.1.0 on AIX using DNS for hostname resolution

I have a netview with several devices which are configured with a
polling time of 5 min. I have seen with tcpdump that the polling is
always approximatively 10 min I check with netmon -a 12 and I saw that
the size of the ping queue go until 600s so 10 min. There is no problem
between netview and DNS to get hostname resolution.

In the ping list i have 1090 elements on the IF list.

How can I tune netview in order to ping all my list in 5 min?

Cordialement.
