Little off topic here but I'll try and help. :)

Try "man mailq" or "ls" the directory. mailq will show all the messages in
the queue and they should relate to the file names in the /var/spool/mqueue
directory. If the files are really old, you can simply delete them.

Have you changed DNS settings, mail server or upgraded to AIX 5.1? If you
changed DNS settings maybe you cannot find the mail exchanger for the domain
(MX record) or cannot reach the mail exchanger for the domain. I think the
sendmail.cf record is replaced in an upgrade and you may have lost your mail
host setting. Look for a line in the /etc/sendmail.cf file beginning with
"DS". If it is still there - then try to ping the host. If that works,
telnet to port 25 on that host - i.e. "telnet mailhost 25". You should get a
response and not a "connection refused".

This a lot to summarize in one email but it will get you started.

Hope this helps.

Hi All,
I have something using alot of space in /var. From what I can
tell, it is /var/spool/mqueue... Some kind of mail queue or something.
Can anyone tell me what this is and how can I manage it. Thanks, dave
