AIX 5.1, NetView 7.1.4

Greetings.  I have a question regarding the use of "!" within a nvdbtools
format file.  Here is a snippit of what I'm trying to do:

SELECTRULE:SmartSet!Maintenance
SELECTRULE:isInterface=TRUE
SELECTRULE:IP Status~Critical
SELECTFIELD:1:IP Address
SELECTFIELD:2:IP Subnet Mask
SELECTFIELD:3:SNMP ifPhysAddr
SELECTFIELD:4:Selection Name
SELECTFIELD:5:SNMP ifDescr
SELECTFIELD:6:IP Status
#
SORTBY:1:IP Address
#
OUTPUT:${1}, ${2}, ${3}, ${4}, ${5}, ${6}

If I change the "!" to an equal, it returns the entries that are contained
in my maintenance smartset.  Why does the "!" not work when tryin to
filter out devices that are contained in that smartset?
