Debra,
If the event you need to test is from the NetView enterprise then "event -l" lists out all the events you can generate with the event command. If the test TRAP you want to generate is not from the NetView enterprise, you will need to use the snmptrap command which can be driven either from a command line or from serversetup -> Diagnose.

If you use command line, I always make sure I use a fully-qualified pathname as many Operating Systems have their own snmptrap command and they all seem to have slightly different syntax - use /usr/OV/bin/snmptrap to be sure of getting the NetView version.

I have put a sample harness shellscript on the NetView Tivoli User Group website - follow this link to find it:

Cheers,
Jane

I have created a ruleset where I want a script to run when specific traps are
received. I would like to test the ruleset. I know you can send a test node
down event by using the command event -h nodename -e NDWN_EV. My question is
where do I look to find the event name for the traps I would like to test. I
cannot look at previous events because none have been generated. These events
are for a very critical UPS system and I cannot wait for an event to happen to
make sure things are set up correctly. I am running Netview 7.1.5 on AIX 5.1.0.
