RE: [nv-l] tec_create_handle failures

Thanks
for that - I will have another look when/if I can generate the problem
again. It certainly wasn't an IP connectivity problem since the
w2k/solaris machines used the same ip address (at different times! - I was
testing the difference between nvCNAT on the two platforms) & they're
plugged into the same switch as the tec server. I'll check again once I
get access to this rig.
thanks

The number one
cause of tec_create_handle failures is being unable to contact the TEC server
to establish a connection. When you
rebooted the box you proved that the problem was not in NetView but outside
it.
For 7.1.4, both the Windows
product and the UNIX product have been linked to the TEC 3.9 EIF libraries,
which is what controls the TEC connection code. So the fact that UNIX had
trouble where Windows did not does not point to flaw in NetView.

I had that problem yesterday on a demo box that nvserverd.log
was reporting tec_create_handle fail messages (NV 7.1.4/Solaris 2.8,
TEC 3.9/w2k). Restarting NV didn't clear the error, but rebooting the
box did (I ran out of time!) - I'm not happy about reboots clearing
things myself! I'd previously had a NV 7.1.4/w2k machine sending
events happily to the same TEC - both installs are straight off the cd
(apart from switching off autotrace & FFDC).
I've seen that
error before (NV 7.1.4/Linux RH, TEC 3.9 Linux RH), but again had no time
to look properly. I didn't touch the SCE settings, but will do next
time I get a chance to see if there is a
pattern.

Hi Chris, Look at /usr/OV/conf/tecint.conf. I
think you will find a couple of lines at the end that enable the State
Correlation feature. I have commented these lines out of tecint.conf
and run nvtecia -reload to have nvserverd take note. That got
things running for me.
Cheers, Jane
