Frank & Jane,
Use the context menu.
Right click on the UserPlane "Symbol" that you want to delete.
Select: Edit-->Delete-->Symbol

I have never found a way to do so.  Both symbols represent the same
object and it almost certainly represents a user error somewhere. 
Delete them both and let NetView refind the object.  Do make sure you
delete it from all Maps and that you get a "Node Deleted" card -
otherwise it will never get rediscovered.
