You need to set ulimits to unlimited

There is a PMR on this but I can't remember the name

It think the syntax is ulimits -a unlimited or something like that

NV 7.1.3

SOL 2.8

When I run NVDBFORMAT -f with my file or canned one in "nvdbtools" It
always cores.

Any ideas?
