Hello list,

Thanks very much for all the help each one of you mailed me the solution, I tried configuring each one of them but successful only to a certain level. I mean after having a tough time getting to configure the modem in the Solaris box, so finally it started dialing out, checked using the AT commands of the modems, it did dial out properly to the number I had provided. So all is working fine as far as the modem is concerned.

Then we tired using the manual way that is the nvpage command to run it from the command line, after a lot of changes in the al the files mentioned it did run and said the message sent successfully, but the problem here is it goes to the modem which makes sound as if its dialing out and then actually gets into a loop. Wherein it actually keeps on retrying for every time out period. So in short its not able to dial out successfully and page. No idea as to whats happening, is there any proper documentation which explains the same. I mean what files and what are the exact statements to be modified.

In any case anyone of you know please let me know. TIA.

In Solaris you have to remove the modem answer-the-phone service that comes set up automatically (admintool -> browse -> serial ports -> edit -> delete (choose com port you want)

You must edit the nv.carriers file and you may need to edit nvpager.config. The nvpager.config file points to newhayes.modem which you will want to customize or replicate for your modem)

Paging is accomplished by using a ruleset to execute nvpage (or a script to the same). I used mailx to send email messages also call from the same ruleset (or script). nvpager.config has the device name for the modem (in my case the oh-so-obvious serial port A known as cua/a.)

Hope that helps.

Hi list,

Does anyone of you know or can provide me an detailed doc on how to configure Netview on solaris 2.8 to send Paged messages to pagers. The problem is I am unable to find out a proper procedure to do the same, except the Admin guide which gives nvpage command and says you have to edit files. We have a HP Smartlink modem with us and a Mobilink service provider. But am still worrying as to what has the files to be edited with. Also I want the same to be Emailed also, I mean mail messages too. So anyone of you who can help me with the same will be really greatful.

TIA.
