These are different ways to format the variable in trapd.conf. They are
explained in the trapd.conf man page. The variable format specifies how
the variable is shown in the Log Message. If you still do not understand
what the man page says, then why not play with it for some specific trap?
If you have an snmptrap script which sends some trap, then play with that
one. If not, use the event command with a dummy node. For example,
        event -h dummy1
will send a Node Up trap with a hostname of "dummy1"
        event -e NDWN_EV -h dummy1
will send a Node Down trapd with hostname of "dummy1" and
        event -e ?
will show you all the traps that the event command can generate

When you are finished experimenting you can always put the Log Message
back the way it was.
