RE: [nv-l] Ovtopofix takes a long time

Hi Scott.

Here's the sequence of commands I run during my weekly database cleanup. The ovw commands are probably unnecessary but I occasionally add ovw database fields etc.

ovstop -v netmon

ovmapcount -a

ovtopofix -A

ovstop -v ovtopmd

nvTurboDatabase space

nvTurboDatabase speed

ovstart -vd

ovw -config

ovw -fields

ovw -verify

I have around 35,000 objects in the object database. I too only have 1 map, default. The ovmapcount and ovtopofix take about 5 minutes each. All my "Tivoli" filesystems are mirrored across 3 disks. Even with that setup the disks run at nearly 100% during these steps.

How many objects in your database? What kind of server are you on? I'm running on a H70 with 4 processors (340 mhz) and 2GB of RAM. Have you monitored the disk, etc? Check topas or vmstat commands.

I am experiencing an issue when I run ovtopofix -A. The process takes 6 to 7 hours to complete. When I run ovmapcount -a it takes painfully long as well. I have only the default map. I direct the output of the ovtopofix to a file and it is full of messages like this one:

Object 8880571 has IP hostname 167.27.124.225, but not in IP topology, deleting fields.
