Catalina -
The daemons do not share your paths.  They have  their own, inherited from 
ovspmd who starts them.
Not only must the command you enter into the Action node have a full path, 
the script you are running must use a full path also.
The nvaction log you posted clearly shows the problem.  it says repeatedly 
that the nsupdate8 command is not found.

Hello, 
I did the following: 1 separated the script into 2 parts. One to do the 
snmpget and a separate one to do nsupdate8. I also created a ruleset to 
execute both:
Event stream--> nv6000 trap (runs the snmpget script)--> action node (runs 
the nsupdate8). 
 
So I got errors for the nsupdate8 command. I did what Stephen recommended 
using the full path. I tried again, this time I did not get any errors. 
See NVACTION.ALOG and trapd.log. However, it did not update the dns file.
 
I tried also logging on as a regular user and ran the nsupdate8 command 
(thinking that maybe that only ROOT could send command) but it worked 
(from the command line, of course).
 
Any other suggestions????

Catalina,

Try fully qualifying the path in front of that command.    To be safe in
any script, all commands should have the path spelled out.
